Hazel’s room is my favourite room in our house. I think its my favourite because it’s the only room that we have fully redone, and by fully redone I mean painted. And when I say “we” I mean Evan of course! He painted the room himself, it’s the first time he has ever painted a room and he did an amazing job! He also built all the furniture and put up the shelves. We went with a light gray colour and it really changes the feel of the room. Paired with all the white furniture the room has a very calm and comforting feeling to it. One of the reasons we chose the gray was because we didn’t know what we were having when we were expecting so we wanted a gender neutral room that could easily suit a little girl or boy. We started out by pairing the gray and white with some pops of yellow here and there but of course now we have thrown some pops of pink in there too!
Our biggest splurge for the room was the bedding, we had looked and looked but we didn’t find anything we loved that would go well with the gray. And then I found Pottery Barn Kids, oh my, I could probably spend a billion dollars in that store! We went with the Taylor collection, its gray and white and has the cutest little elephants all over it, this is where my obsession of elephants began. Every time I see something to do with elephants now it instantly catches my eye, where as before I wouldn’t have even noticed.
Since we splurged big time on the bedding we kept the budget in line by picking up a rocking chair off of Craigslist. Evan sanded and painted the chair white and I found a nice rocking chair pad online for it. I wanted to get a Moroccan style pouf for the foot rest but couldn’t justify the price. I ended up finding the ottoman at Homesense and I am very glad I went that route. There have been several times where Murray is sitting in the chair and I end up sitting on the ottoman and I don’t think a pouf would have been as comfy.
One of my favourite pieces in the room is the bear print above the change table. This print was in my room growing up. I had no idea my mom still had it until she gifted it to me before Hazel was born. She had waited until we picked out the room colours and then went and got it re-framed and matted. It’s a great addition to the room and fits in perfectly. Somedays its hard to get Hazel to sit still while we change her as she wants to touch the bears.
I submitted a bunch of pictures of Hazels room to Project Nursery the other night and to my surprise this morning it was on their homepage! This was definitely a highlight to my day as I was expecting to have to search for it in their galleries. To see more pictures and to find out what products we used in the room go check out my post on Project Nursery.
